Dodgers beat Marlins! Complete 11th sweep of season

Rich Hill pitched five innings of one run baseball while striking out nine. Justin Turner hit a solo shot in the top of the first inning and drove in Logan Forsythe in the 3rd with a sacrafice fly. The Marlins best scoring chance came in the bottom of the 8th inning. With two outs, Dave Roberts called on Jansen earlier than usual. Christian Yelich, the first batter Kenley faced, singled in Gordon making it a one run game. Marcell Ozuna then singled on a ball up the middle with an 0-2 count. Jansen then buckeled down and struck out Justin Bour on three pitches to end the 8th inning and the Marlins threat. The Dodgers would go on to complete their 11th sweep of the year by beating the Marlins 3-2.

The Dodgers have now won 29 out of their last 33 games, winning their last nine contests. Going all the way back to 1899, they (then the Brooklyn Dodgers) were the only other team to go on such a stretch. Brooklyn would go on to win a total of 101 games and the National League Pennant.

Every single win for the Dodgers is always a team win. Each day a different player seems to pick up the slack. For this series, it was first Puig who carried the team on his shoulders. Saturday it was Bellinger and today it was Justin Turner. Dodgers are currently the most complete team in all of baseball. It will be interesting to see if Dodgers front office will make any moves before the trade deadline. Adding an additional arm to the bullpen, or a right handed starter to compliment Kershaw and Wood at the top of the rotation, could mean we see the Dodgers in the World Series for the first time since 1988.

Dodgers will now head to Chicago for a rare two game series against the White Sox starting Tuesday. Kershaw (14-2 2.18 ERA) will take the mound looking to extend the Dodgers winning streak to 10 games. Dodgers are one of only three teams to have a winning streak this year of 10 or more games. The other two teams are the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. If the Dodgers can win their next outing, they will become the only team in Major League Baseball this year to have two different 10 game winning streaks. The Dodgers lead is still 1.5 games over the Astros for the best record in all of baseball.

GO BLUE!

...and they'll be getting Scott Kazmir back for the stretch run which should help bolster the starting rotation. Already with Kershaw, Wood, and Hill, the Dodgers staff should prove to be tough to face in a short series!!

    1. Very true. Will be interesting if they take all those lefties into the post season or try to add a right handed starter.

  2. This front office as much as people hated on them to begin with, has built an amazing team full of depth.
My favorite addition would be Roberts. This team really seems to play like Dave Roberts did has a player. They never give up.

    1. I agree. Dave Roberts has turned into one of the top if not the best manager in all of baseball.

  3. I'd have to agree, Roberts has been way better than anyone expected! He truly has a great ability to handle the pitching staff and all of the various personalities on the team. His players truly seem to love him, and want to win for him... an extension of his own personality as Teate said.

  4. By the way, did you see that Dodgers leadership is pitching the idea of selling naming rights for Dodger Stadium for a cool $12 million a year? I hope it's not true!!

    1. Wow! I did not see that. I would hope they are getting enough money from their TV contract. $12 million a year doesn't even seem that much.

    2. Padres are getting $3 mil a year from Petco, Mets are getting $20 mil a year from Citi, so $12 mil is middle. I saw a FB post from someone who asked if you'd like to see a name like In-n-Out Field (or Park) at Dodger Stadium...

    3. Sounds like it may be happening. Hopefully ownership will change their minds.

    4. Doubtful, since money is involved...
